Perry was public about his history of addiction, writing about it in his 2022 memoir. Before his death, he’d been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety, though that treatment couldn’t have killed him, the medical examiner concluded last year.
Authorities said this week that the people around the actor took advantage of him, coordinating to furnish him with ketamine vials and lozenges in the fall of 2023 outside of supervised settings until his ketamine addiction was “spiraling out of control.”

Ketamine has been known to treat serious depression
