She got her start in Hollywood at eleven years old playing the lead in the critically-acclaimed film Welcome to the Dollhouse. In the film, her character was tortured and teased by her school peers and called a "lesbo". Now 21 years old, Heather Matarazzo has come out, unafraid of the label that was used to tease her character in Dollhouse.
In an interview with the New York Daily News, Matarazzo disclosed that she is "madly crazy in love" - and the object of her affection is an amateur actress. Matarazzo did not name her girlfriend, but she did say "she's not famous yet. She will be. She wants to do musical theater and stage, which is not as demoralizing as the movie business is."
Matarazzo has appeared in a number of successful films, including Scream 3, Saved! and most recently in The Princess Diaries 2. She's never lacked for work, and Saved! director Brian Dannelly stated that he doesn't think Matarazzo's coming out will hurt her career.
"Any time a person can be honest with who they are it's a good thing," Dannelly told the Daily News. "Any repercussions will be short-lived. Heather's lucky because she doesn't fall into the typical Hollywood actress category. She's a true Hollywood individual."
