인터뷰 내용이 좀 있고 맨 마지막 장에는 thank you for buying this music 이라는 단순한 한줄이 있는데 왠지 굉장히 솔직하게 들리는 군요.
when I had finished working on this film, Krzysztof sent me a letter asking if he could meet me to talk about the music for his next film, No End. I met him in Warsaw, which was a strange, sad place at the time. there was nothing to eat or drink in the restaurants exept vodka and gherkins. so we met in a bar with his head cameraman, Jacek Petrycki. he asked me what I wanted to drink. I was hungry, because I had taken the train from Krahow to Warsaw, but there wasn't anything to eat, so we ended up drinking vodka. ...
For The Double life of Veronique, Krzystof gave me a screenplay to read. he was in Krakow and we were talking. he asked me what I thought of it. I told him it was fantastic, but he said; No, what do you think of the music? I answered; what music? he showed me the bit about the concert. it was a very short segment; I had completely forgotten about it. I asked him if he had an idea for the music and he said he didn't. I told him: but music is vital for this film! and it was in fact up to me tp uncover this element that was simply a short sentence in the scereenplay. I'm not trying to say that I'm really important; I'm just saying that it was a relationship of total trust....
he was far from being a musician, but he perfectly understood the advantages of film music. as he wasn't a musician, he said that if he understood the music, then anyone could. his "layman" quality made hom even more universal. the greatest paring in the history of film scores was definitely Rota and Fellini, but you must also include Morricone/Leone and Nyman/Greenaway in the league; I also like Francis Lai and Claude Lelouche. I simply hope that my work with Krzysztof is part of this history. I was luchy enough to work with him, that's all.
