September 30: Tartan sets U.S. TALE OF TWO SISTERS dates
FANGORIA has learned that Tartan Films will release the award-winning Korean chiller A TALE OF TWO SISTERS in Chicago and San Francisco December 10 and New York and LA December 17, with other cities likely to follow. Directed by Ji-woon Kim, A TALE OF TWO SISTERS took home top prizes at both Montreal’s Fantasia and LA’s Screamfest in the last year. The movie, told in flashbacks, concerns the ghostly and mysterious occurrences that befall the titular siblings and their troubled family at a secluded country house. DreamWorks has acquired the U.S. remake rights (see previous item here). Tartan’s other upcoming theatrical releases include Chuck (ED GEIN) Parello’s THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER (NY on October 8; LA on October 15) and Chan-wook (SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE) Park’s bleak revenge melodrama OLD BOY (due February 2005). For DVD release, Tartan’s Asia Extreme label has Kiyoshi (CURE) Kurosawa’a DOPPELGANGER and Chi-Leung (DOUBLE TAP) Law’s KOMA set for January. A Hong Kong thriller, KOMA stars Kar Yan (INNER SENSES) Lam and Angelica (THE EYE) Lee and details a nasty rivalry between two girls from opposite sides of the tracks. —Tony Timpone
