[re] English Spectrum forum에 대한 다른 외국인 강사들의 반응
Dave's ESL Cafe라는 사이트의 한국 게시판에서 가져온 comment들입니다.
English Spectrum이 한국에 사는 외국인 강사들을 위한 사이트라면
Dave's ESL Cafe는 전세계적으로 ESL 강사들이 제일 많이 모여드는 사이트라고 할 수 있죠.
그분들의 허락을 받지도 않고 이렇게 복사해 온게 옳은건지는 모르겠습니다.;;;
문제가 되면 나중에 삭제하죠. 어쨌든 공개게시판에 쓰신 글이니까...

Did you guys hear that the Joongang daily reported something about the negative things being posted by teachers in the English Spectrum forums? Apparently Korean netizens attacked the site and it was down today.
Can someone translate the article... I guess it was hideously damning to English teachers.

Anyone want to translate? I know some Korean, but not that much.

The thrust of the article was that foreigners were saying things like, "It's easy to sleep with Korean women while making money teaching." And that this, presumably, is not a good thing.

Well, one of my Korean female friends is making a big stink about it with me in MSN Chat right now. She is saying about how now she's not going to date foreigners, and how now no Korean girl would dare hold hands with a foreigner in public. And she's cancelled our plans to go to hongdae dancing, out of fear that korean men will attack us.
Thankfully, many Korean females know better and can see through that.
She'll get over it, as will many.

"여자랑 자기 쉽고 돈벌기 쉬운 김치랜드"
Looks like we all be living in "Easy-woman, easy-money Kimchee-land"
Us old-timers won't be too shocked or surprised by this. Best one was in the late 1980s, when a few Frenchman who'd lived here a few years went back and blabbed all to Le Monde about how easy it was for them, even as froggy EFL-ers to land good-paying English teaching gigs and how (as I recall) quick the womenfolk (single AND married, which caused the biggest uproar) were to drop their knickers for a big-nose who knew how to hold a chair & open a door for them.
That directly led to one of the biggest and longest-lived crackdowns (was still in force when I got here in the 90s) on English teachers this peninsula as ever witnessed.

OK, I read the Korean article and understood it. However rather than seeing second hand reporting, I would like to see the original text to see if there were any mitigating circumstances.
Does anyone have a link?

It's a good thing this forum is still top secret.

Yeah, that "Ask the Playboy" board was pretty crude and degrading, even by this site's standards... Who the hell refers to themselves in 3rd person as "Teh Playboy" anyways???
Kinda funny that it happened now, cuz just barely two weeks ago they were putting some stuff on there about dating 16 year-olds, and someone went up and said something to the effect of "You idiots, this is gonna draw some Korean ire eventually".... I'm kinda glad it did, to be honest.
