캐나다 대표 피겨 스케이터인 로셰트 선수의 어머니께서 갑자기 심장마비로 사망하셨다는 기사를 접했습니다. 이런 비극 속에서 일생 일대의 경기를 치뤄내야 하다니 생각만 해도 마음이 아프군요.

"I cannot explain how I went through all of that," Frechette said. "I just felt so numb. For 24 hours I felt numb. The pain was so great you cannot even breathe. But what was stronger than anything was my desire to feel alive again. The only way I knew how to feel alive was to swim. My mother came with me the first time to the pool and she said to me: 'As soon as you went in the water your skin colour changed. Your eyes were more blue. The life came back to your body.' "
또한 미국 대표인 미라이 나가수양의 어머님은 암으로 투병중이라는 군요.
American Mirai Nagasu, whose mother has cancer, was stunned to hear the news when informed by reporters.
"Wow," said Nagasu, blinking back tears. "I think this will spur her on to do even better because here she will skate for her mum."
Nagasu, 16, added: "If it was me it would give me motivation as it has since my mum has thyroid cancer. I'm hoping that she'll be able to pull through and she's been really strong for me so I want to skate for my mum here as well."
