"Darkness" falls on Paquin

Young actress Anna Paquin has agreed to star in Spanish studio Filmax's drama, The Darkness. Dimension Films will distribute the film in the United States and other English-speaking territories.

Paquin, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her turn in Jane Campion's The Piano, will play a young woman who moves with her family to a remote house in the countryside, only to see her family ripped apart by the house's horrifying past.

She recently co-starred in last year's summer blockbuster X-Men and Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous.
