Real-Life Acting Difficult for Paquin
Louis B. Hobson The show must go on.
Anna Paquin, 14, may have won a supporting actress Oscar for her performance in The Piano.
But it was on the set of her newest movie Fly Away Home that she really learned about acting.
Paquin was in Toronto last year filming the warm and fuzzy family comedy about a girl who teaches
a flock of stranded geese how to migrate.
Back home in New Zealand, Paquin's parents filed for divorce.
"The divorce was very difficult on Anna. It was difficult for her to hide her emotions off camera
but the moment she was needed on set, she was a real trooper," recalls director Carroll Ballard.
"Fortunately both Anna's mother and father are there for her. They take turns travelling with her.
It's just that they aren't a family any more."
